The Healing Power
of the Breath and Music
HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK is a powerful method of using non-ordinary states of consciousness for self-exploration, personal transformation, and healing. It is based on insights from modern consciousness research, depth psychology, anthropology, and various spiritual practices. It was developed by Stanislav Grof, MD and Christina Grof, leading pioneers in the field of transpersonal psychology. Holotropic, derived from the Greek 'holos' and 'trapein', means "moving towards wholeness".
A highly experiential method, HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK combines breathing, evocative music, focused release bodywork, mandala drawing, and group sharing to access the inner healing wisdom within each individual. By activating the unconscious and mobilizing blocked energies, this work gives us access to all levels of human experience and activates the spontaneous healing potential of the psyche.
In HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK, the emphasis is on creating a safe and supportive environment in which each participant can surrender fully to all sensations, feelings, visions, energy movement, and other experiences that can come up during the session.
This work is of value to those interested in inner exploration, self-discovery, and spiritual awareness. It is a wonderful adjunct to psychotherapy and other forms of inner work, as well as a powerful method of self-care for helping professionals.

I know of no work that so well incorporates the findings of Freud, Jung and Rank, adding fresh insights, which the methods of those psychotherapists could never have achieved. I do not doubt that many others working in this field would find Dr. Grof´s discoveries a basis for a whole new strategy of research.
